Clean Line Transmission Project Gets Chilly Reception in Missouri

Local Missouri farmers and business owners gathered on Tuesday to voice their opposition to the Grain Belt Express Project, one of several transmission projects planned across the county by Clean Line Energy Partners, LLC.

This project in particular, which was developed to provide and carry cheap wind energy across several states, will include a 206-mile high-voltage line crossing from southwest Kansas, directly through Missouri, costing nearly $2.2 billion when completed.

Backed by the Missouri Farm Bureau, several farmers and landowners attended the first public hearing to express concerns about their property rights, land devaluation, and loss of land productivity should the line be approved and constructed on its current route. These opponents join the already 3,200 public comments filed with the Missouri Commission to date. Taking these concerns into consideration, the Commission is expected to provide a decision on regulatory approval for the project by early 2015.
