IDOT chief urges quick resolution on Illiana Expressway

What Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn heard Thursday in Kankakee County on the 38th of his 39 tour stops across the state shouldn’t have come as a surprise.

People want to know if the Illiana Expressway proposal is dead, or is it still being considered? When will Gov. Bruce Rauner make his decision on moving the project forward or killing it?

Blankenhorn, IDOT secretary for only the past few months, anticipates making his recommendation to Rauner this summer.

He said the time has come for a decision to be made on the proposed $1.5 billion, 48-mile toll road that would connect Interstate 65 in Indiana to Interstates 55 and 57 in Illinois.
