State designation of proposed I-66 corridor needed

Engineer Bill Robison displayed maps and presented information about a proposed I-66 corridor that has three states holding public meetings to address bridges crossing the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. Robison addressed the members of the Dexter Kiwanis Club at their Monday meeting at American Steak House.

A study was completed 10 years ago that had the I-66 corridor following U.S. Highway 60 through southern Missouri. The highway is four-lane from Sikeston where I-57 ends, and then through Springfield, Mo., all the way to the Oklahoma line.

Robison noted that much of the highway already meets the necessary requirements for an interstate designation, and the rest could be made that way.
